Maurice Sendak
Maurice Bernard Sendak, amerykański pisarz i ilustrator literatury dziecięcej, urodzony 10 czerwca 1928 roku w Nowym Jorku, zmarł 8 maja 2012 roku w Danbury w stanie Connecticut.

Maurice Sendak był gejem. Od końca lat 50-tych był w związku z psychoanalitykiem Eugenem Glynnem, z którym mieszkał, aż do jego śmierci w 2007 roku.[1] Sendak nigdy nie powiedział swoim rodzicom o własnej orientacji homoseksualnej.
Sendak urodził się na Brooklynie w rodzinie żydowskich imigrantów z Polski. Międzynarodową karierę zyskał dzięki książce dla dzieci Where the Wild Things Are (Gdzie mieszkają dzikie stwory), którą napisał i zilustrował w 1963 roku. W 1970 roku za swoje ilustracje otrzymał Nagrodę im. Hansa Christiana Andersena, przyznawaną przez Międzynarodową Izbę ds. Książek dla Młodych. W 1996 roku został uhonorowany amerykańskim odznaczeniem państwowym - National Medal of Arts. Sendak zmarł 8 maja 2012 roku w Danbury w wyniku powikłań po udarze mózgu.
